Former First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama has made a substantial contribution to the informal sector economy by donating equipment to support hairdressers and dressmakers in Busunya, a community located in the Nkoranza North constituency of the Bono East region.

The donation, facilitated by the Lordina Foundation, consisted of one hundred twenty (120) sewing machines, one hundred (100) hair dryers, and accessories. This initiative aims to support recently graduated apprentices and skilled craftswomen who are mentoring young girls in vocational training within the district.
In her speech, Mrs. Mahama emphasized the significance of treating their professions with seriousness and avoiding procrastination and a lack of commitment in meeting customer deadlines.
She encouraged the recipients to prioritize quality customer service, stressing that it is essential for retaining current clients and attracting new ones.
Additionally, as the spouse of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, she reiterated her husband’s commitment to implementing a transformative Free Apprenticeship Programme.
This forward-thinking initiative aims to benefit both apprentices and their mentors by equipping them with essential tools and capital to establish their own businesses after completing their training.
Mrs. Mahama highlighted the program’s potential to secure a brighter future for these artisans, serving as a beacon of hope for the community. She emphasized the critical role artisans play in the national economy.
Her assurance that her husband, if elected, would foster an enabling environment for these businesses to prosper underscores the importance of supporting and expanding the informal sector, which is pivotal for overall economic growth and development in the country.
She further stated that by supporting artisans and apprentices, it would help guarantee the growth and prosperity of businesses within this sector, thereby contributing to the nation’s overall economic advancement.
Additionally, Mrs. Mahama presented items to three hundred (300) widows in the constituency.
